Community Responsibility

Richardson Electronics and its founders have a deep commitment to social, civic and environmental issues. The Company sponsors a number of charitable programs each year and actively supports new opportunities employees frequently uncover, whether through contributions of time or financial resources. It is Richardson's employees who turn each opportunity into a successful contribution, because of their commitment to helping others and determination to make a difference.

Below are some highlights of Richardson's most recent contributions to charitable events, programs and organizations. We look forward to adding to this list often and to our continued investment in the social, civic and environmental programs helping to improve our community.

Summer 2005

Richardson Electronics' “Run for the Relay” Richardson Electronics held the company’s third annual "Run for the Relay" on Friday, June 20th, 2005. This is the second year that Richardson has been an official sponsor of the Relay for Life event held by the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research.

Richardson’s "Run for the Relay" fundraising event consists of a 2-mile run around the LaFox, Illinois headquarters. Again this year, a 2-mile walk was added to the mix to include employees who did not choose to run. This year 23 employees ran at the Corporate Headquarters in LaFox. Employees who did not wish to run or walk donated their services for the event and/or sponsored their favorite team.

This year, the race brought in $6,458.74 from the 13 teams who participated. In addition, Richardson's Chairman and CEO, Ed Richardson, personally and generously matched this amount bringing the total to $10,034.44.

Again this year, we are hosting "giving trees" for Lazurus house and Communities that Care. Trees are set up in the cafeteria with tags that have items requested by needy families in the area. Employees may take as many tags as they choose from the tree and purchase the item(s) listed. Those item(s) are then distributed to the organizations listed below.

Communities that Care is a non profit orgainization, that serves under resourced communities in the Chicagoland area. The collected items are distributed to families using services from Bridge Youth and Family, Hanover Township Family Services, Metro Family Services, Omni Youth, Youth Outreach, & Shelters Inc.  All of these agencies work with low income/at risk families & childred from ages 0-17. Families receive emergency shelter, counseling etc for victims of abuse, neglect due to alcohol & drug adition.

This holiday season Richardson Electronics has made a donation to the Kane County Fraternal Order of Police “Shop-With-A-Cop” program in lieu of sending greeting cards. We hope that our donation will make this holiday season and the year to come more enjoyable for the nearly 28,000 less fortunate children in Kane county served by this program.

“Shop-With-A-Cop” is a program where Kane County Deputies in uniform personally take children to local stores to purchase new clothing and toys. Their goal is to spend up to $100.00 on each child. The deputies also provide a breakfast for the children and try to get to know the children and build a better relationship with them.

The Kane County Deputies have expressed their appreciation for this gesture of goodwill and have assured us that donations such as ours truly do make a difference.
